International students face complex legal challenges every day, from tenancy disputes and workplace rights to safety concerns and navigating immigration rules. Yet, clear, accessible guidance is often hard to find. Rights in Action empowers students to turn academic knowledge into practical, community-ready solutions. Working in teams, students will research pressing legal issues, create plain-language guides and policy briefs, and collaborate with community partners to share actionable insights with peers and institutions. Through this project, students become educators, bridging theory and practice to make international law tangible, understandable, and impactful.
Interns will build their skills through certified training, practical verification exercises, and applied research. They will use a GLOCAL fact-checking Google Form (linked later) to record their findings. Their work will culminate in a publishable Substack article that summarizes the misinformation trends they observed, reputable sources they used, and practical insights for Canadians
Digital civil society accelerates the spread of misinformation and disinformation, creating an information environment that can weaken democratic processes and public trust. As part of GLOCAL’s civic journalism program, interns will actively monitor, fact-check, and analyze misleading claims circulating online across multiple topic areas, with a recommended quarterly focus on Youth Employment
A virtual conversation focused on youth leadership and community volunteering. We’ll be joined by Camille Hastings, Community & Volunteer Engagement Manager at The Mustard Seed, a non profit organization dedicated to addressing homelessness and poverty. Camille brings over 15 years of experience in community volunteering and engagement, and she will share insights on how youth can get involved in meaningful service, build leadership skills through volunteering, and contribute to lasting social impact.
